How do I plan CCTV and access control for a school or council building?

Start with how people and vehicles move around the site. Mark every entrance, the reception route, car parks, the perimeter, rooms holding valuable equipment or data, and areas staff cannot easily supervise. Each of those becomes a zone with its own aim, such as identifying visitors at the gate or detecting intruders at night, and the aim decides the equipment.

What zones does a typical school need?

Usually a perimeter and gate zone, a main entrance and reception zone, a car park and drop-off zone, internal circulation such as corridors and stairwells, staff-only areas, server and storage rooms, and playgrounds or grounds. Sites with out-of-hours lettings often add a separate community-use zone.

What does the zone report include?

A plan of your site with each pin, the recommended system for every location, and notes on why. It is a planning aid for internal discussion and budget setting, not a design; camera positions and specifications are confirmed at survey.
